"In the 1980s, bars cropped up in the Malasaña neighbourhood in Madrid setting trends, both in terms of their aesthetics and their music. These bars were not only places to have a drink at but true meeting places for people with different creative interests that translated into magazines, new music bands and films. The Malasaña phenomenon transcended the city itself, crossing borders and becoming a mythic place of pilgrimage. "
