Sinopsis
Emilia Pardo Bazán, novelist, essayist, short-story writer, journalist, and literary critic, is one of the most important writers of Spanish literature in the 19th and early 20th century, but also a staunch defender of women's rights, marking independence and dignity in her life, and part of the denunciation of today's feminist movements.
Today she is giving one of her most important speeches, which she would never have wanted to give. Or maybe yes, because Emilia always fought for what she believed in. Today she is at the RAE, in front of the academics who never let her in, and she will try to convince them why she cannot belong to the Royal Academy. Probably if her name were Emilio, she would be.
With the excuse of this fictitious speech, based on the monologue that has been successfully performed at Teatro de Barrio since 2016, we will transcend the character and review moments in the life and work of this distinguished writer, but above all, a woman who fought for the rights she believed in.
Combining fiction, interviews, archive, and places that remind us of where she spent her life, A Coruña, Galicia, Madrid or Paris, trips like the one she made to Murcia, we will see the life of Emilia, Doña Emilia Pardo Bazán.
